Gilchrist Library

 

Introduction

The Gilchrist Library is regarded as the most comprehensive marine and fisheries science library in Southern Africa. It is revered as a well established resource with a fully fledged integrated library management system that is located at the Fisheries branch of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The library provides access to marine and fisheries information as well as administrative literature support to DAFF internal staff. School learners, tertiary students, the general public and consultants also enjoy free access to the library. The library also serves as a national archive of all marine and fisheries literature published in South Africa.

The Gilchrist library has a large collection of journals representing Marine science Institutes accross the world

The library shares an active resource sharing relationship with all the surrounding academic institutions in South Africa. Students are often referred to the Gilchrist Library to consult our comprehensive journal collection in the marine and fisheries sciences. In addition, the library also process requests from local, intergovernmental and international library lending partners

Monday to Friday - 8:30 to 16:00
