Overview and mandate of the directorate
Department of Agricultural, Land Reform and Rural Development supports the development of infrastructure along the whole value chain for all producers. This infrastructure consists of:
- Irrigation systems
- Drainage systems
- Soil Conservation Works
- Intensive animal production facilities
- Intensive crop production facilities
- Mechanization
- Energy
- Agro-processing facilities
- Extensive animal production facilities
- Storage facilities
- Transport systems
- Roads
- Farm buildings
- Waste management systems
Purpose
The purpose of the Directorate Infrastructure Support is to provide engineering services consisting of the following:
- Develop national engineering norms and standards, guidelines and best practices on all engineering aspects relating to infrastructure development, mechanization and energy.
- Provide advisory engineering services to clients on engineering aspects
- Provide clients with area wide planning support regarding infrastructure
- Provide provinces with a sighting, drilling and testing of boreholes service for priority projects on request of the Head of Department. (capacity to drill 120 boreholes per year)
- Construct part of the FMD fence for the Directorate Animal Heath (DAFF)
- Maintain soil conservation infrastructure at the Spitskop conservation area (Velkpoort)
